چکیده

In this work we report on the synthesis and characterization of Au nanoparticles grown in the inner environment of cationic polyelectrolyte brushes. The nanocomposite synthesis relies on loading the macromolecular film with AuCl4 2 precursor ions followed by their in situ reduction to Au nanoparticles. We observed that the nanoparticles are uniform in size and are fully stabilized by the surrounding polyelectrolyte chains. Moreover, XRR analysis revealed that the Au NPs are formed within the polymer-brush layer. AFM experiments confirmed that the swelling behaviour of the brush layer is not perturbed by the presence of the loaded NPs. The Au NP-poly-METAC nanocomposite is remarkably stable to aqueous environments, suggesting the feasibility of using this kind of nanocomposite systems as robust and reliable stimuli-responsive platforms.

Synthesis of dense poly(acrylic acid) brushes and their interaction with amine-functional silsesquioxane nanoparticles.

Poly(acrylic acid) polyelectrolyte brushes were synthesized by surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (SI-ATRP) of tert-butyl acrylate on planar gold surfaces and subsequent hydrolysis. Three types of monolayers with different numbers of thiol binding sites per initiating unit were used. The binding strength to the gold surface turned out to be of crucial importance for the form...

Polyelectrolyte-modified cowpea mosaic virus for the synthesis of gold nanoparticles.

Polyelectrolyte surface-modified cowpea mosaic virus (CPMV) can be used for the templated synthesis of narrowly dispersed gold nanoparticles. Cationic polyelectrolyte, poly(allylamine) hydrochloride, is electrostatically bound to the external surface of the virus capsid. The polyelectrolyte-coated CPMV promotes adsorption of aqueous gold hydroxide anionic species, prepared from gold(III) chlori...

Synthesis of gold nanoparticles: a new approach in using a nanoporous membrane in conjunction with ultrasonication

Gold nanoparticles were synthesized by chemical reduction of HAuCl4 inside the pores of a polycarbonate-based membrane followed by dissolving the membrane in dichloromethane and further sonication. Sonication time as the main affecting factor on the nanoparticle size was investigated. The characterization by transmission electron microscopy showed the formation of gold nanoparticles with diamet...

Uptake of pH-Sensitive Gold Nanoparticles in Strong Polyelectrolyte Brushes

The impact of electrostatic attraction on the uptake of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) into positively charged strong poly-[2-(Methacryloyloxy) ethyl] trimethylammonium chloride (PMETAC) polyelectrolyte brushes was investigated. In this work, PMETAC brushes were synthesized via surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (Si-ATRP). PMETAC/AuNP composite materials were prepared by incubat...
